Now We're Live
contents · notes
The first post on this blog is a song about building this blog.
Every line is something that actually happened while putting the site together. The visuals use the site's own colors, fonts, tmux bar, vim status line and the same ASCII art engine that draws the art for every post.
What the song is about
- The stack. Rails 8 in a container on Colima, Postgres instead of SQLite, Hotwire with import maps and no build step.
- The look. A tmux bar up top, a vim line down below, generative ASCII art seeded from each post's name, and a bonsai that grows one branch per post.
- The deploy. A $12 DigitalOcean droplet in nyc1 (nyc3 was sold out), Kamal with a local registry, QEMU so an arm64 Mac can build amd64 images, nameservers moved from Namecheap, and a Let's Encrypt cert in seconds.
- The mail. DigitalOcean blocks port 587, so the first emails just timed out. Resend's port 2587 fixed it, then DMARC, DKIM and one "not spam" click fixed the junk folder.
- The bridge. I asked for AI in the app and got an Opus panel. What I actually wanted was an API my local agent could use, so we rolled it back.
How it was made
Honestly: mostly machine. Claude wrote the lyrics with me, Suno made the song, and a team of Claude agents built and animated the video with HyperFrames, one scene per line.
More soon. The cursor's blinking.
